Housing Help for Single Mothers

Homeless MotherAre you starting to get nervous about where you and your children are going live?

Have you been moving from home to home and want to finally provide a stable place for you and your children?

You aren’t alone and there is housing for single mothers available, no matter where you live.

You don’t ever have to turn to the streets and you shouldn’t ever turn to them. It’s dangerous and doesn’t give your children security.

While it may seem like it’s the only choice you have, it’s not. You have many other options and you need to seek out those options to take advantage of them.

How to Find Housing Assistance

The first place you should visit is your state’s housing department. You can find out about HUD and other programs for financial disadvantaged families.

While it can take a while to get to the top of the list for low income housing, the sooner you get on the list, the sooner you’ll get a place to live.

Your next place to go is social services. Social services has a list of places for low income families. While you may not find places you can afford the first time you look at the list, if you keep requesting the list, you may end up finding somewhere that meets your budget. Keeping up on it is essential.

These lower priced housing options go quickly, so if you can be one of the first people to find out about it, you could be the lucky one to get it.

Transitional Housing

Transitional housing can be a miracle for you. They provide homeless men and women a warm, stable place to live. They will also work with you to find employment or go to school so you can get a job.

Here is a list of some transitional housing resources to look into if you are in need of a place to live quickly:

How to Get By in Difficult Times

If you’ve gone through every housing option and still have nowhere to go, don’t forget about homeless shelters. Find out when they open and how you can increase your chances of getting in for each night. Often times, you will need to stand in line and be at the door hours before they open at night.

While at the shelter, ask for housing assistance. They usually have case managers there that can hook you up with help in your community.

Being a single mom is hard; being a homeless single mom is harder. Understand that you are only one person and that all you can do is try your hardest to get housing.

While you may feel defeated a lot, don’t give up. This is not only for you but for your children too. The more you work at it, the higher your chances of getting into stable housing.

And once you do, you’ll look back and be so proud of yourself.
